IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS: When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following:

  • Read all instructions before using the appliance.
  • To avoid fire or shock hazard, plug the appliance directly into a 120V AC electrical outlet.
  • The heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, DO NOT let bare skin touch hot surfaces. Use handle when moving this heater. Keep combustible materials, such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains at least 3 ft (0.9 m) from the front of the heater and keep them away from the sides and rear.
  • DO NOT run cord under carpeting. DO NOT cover cord with throw rugs, runners, or the like. Arrange cord away from traffic area and where it will not be tripped over.
  • This heater is not intended for use in bathrooms, laundry areas and similar indoor locations. NEVER locate heater where it may fall into a bathtub or other water container.
  • Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by, or near children or invalids, and whenever the heater is left operating and unattended.
  • Always unplug the heater when not in use.
  • When unplugging, be sure to pull by the plug and not the cord.
  • DO NOT insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause an electric shock or fire, or damage the heater.
  • DO NOT operate heater with a damaged cord or plug, or after the heater malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to manufacturer for examination, electrical or mechanical adjustment, or repair.
  • A heater has hot and arcing or sparking parts inside. DO NOT use it in areas where gasoline,
    paint, or flammable liquids are used or stored.
  • Use appliance only for intended household use as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons. The use ofattachments not recommended or sold by the manufacturer may cause  hazards.
  • DO NOT use outdoors.
  • To prevent a possible fire, DO NOT block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. DO NOT use on soft surfaces like a bed, where openings may become blocked.
  • To disconnect heater, turn controls to OFF, then remove plug from outlet.
  • Avoid the use of an extension cord because the extension cord may overheat and cause a risk of fire. However, if you have to use an extension cord, the cord should be No. 14AWG minimum size and rated not less than 1875 watts.
  • If the heater will not operate, see specific instructions under Auto Safety Shut-off on resetting the heater.
  • DO NOT attempt to repair or adjust any electrical or mechanical functions on this unit. Doing so will void your warranty. The inside of the unit contains no user serviceable parts. All servicing should be performed by qualified personnel only.
  • DISCONTINUE USE IF PLUG OR OUTLET IS HOT. RECOMMEND OUTLET BE REPLACED IF PLUG OR OUTLET IS HOT TO TOUCH.

CONSUMER SAFETY INFORMATION

THIS APPLIANCE HAS A POLARIZED PLUG (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MODIFY THIS PLUG OR DEFEAT THIS SAFETY FEATURE IN ANY WAY.

NOTE:

  • There may be an odor coming from the heater the first time you use it or after long periods of storing. This is normal during the break-in period. Make sure the heater is in a well ventilated area and continue running it until the smell goes away.
  • You may hear a popping or crackling sound as the heater heats up. This is normal and safe operation. Once the heater heats up, the crackling sound will go away.

ECO-SMART™ TECHNOLOGY (SLP3310 ONLY)

Is a technology that allows this portable heater to heat an area more efficiently through a continuous cycling of wattages. Although no physical change is noticeable, when the heater runs in ECO-SMART™ mode it consumes less energy over a long period of time. To activate the Eco-Smart™ cycle depress the Eco-Smart™ button. The Eco-Smart™ cycle can be deactivated by depressing the Eco-Smart™ button. Once deactivated, the heater will run continuously at 1500 watts.

AUTO SAFETY SHUT-OFF

This heater is equipped with a patented, technologically advanced, safety system that automatically shuts off the current to the heater when a potential overheat temperature is reached. The heater can only resume operation when you reset it.

TO RESET THE HEATER

If your heater shuts down, follow these steps:

  • Turn Power to OFF.
  • Unplug the heater and wait 30 minutes.
  • Plug in the heater, turn the power ON.
  • Your heater should now operate properly.

TIP-OVER SHUT-OFF

If the heater is knocked over, it will instantly shut off. To resume operation, simply place the heater in an upright position and turn ON the heater.

PRE-OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Make sure the heater is OFF before plugging the heater into the outlet.
  • Place the heater on a firm, level surface.
  • Avoid overloading your circuit by not using other high wattage appliances in the same outlet. At 1500 Watts, this unit draws 12.5 Amps.
  • Make sure unit and plug is free of moisture and debris before plugging into an electrical outlet.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Press the On/Off button to turn unit on.
  • Select temperature by pressing the Temperature button until the desired temperature is chosen.
  • Set the Timer for the duration in which you would like the heater to run before turning off automatically.
  • Then choose whether or not you would like to use the Eco-Smart™ Technology by pressing the Eco-Smart™ button.

  • To turn heater On simply turn knob to desired heat level, Low or High.
  • Select desired temperature by turning the Thermostat knob counterclockwise until the desired comfort level is reached.

CLEANING/MAINTENANCE

  • Always unplug the heater before cleaning and allow to cool.
  • Lightly run a vacuum cleaner nozzle over the heater grill to remove any dust or dirt that may have accumulated.
  • Carefully wipe the heater with a soft, damp cloth. Please be very cautious near the heating elements.
  • NEVER use abrasive or flammable solvents to clean the heater.
  • After cleaning, be sure to completely dry the heater with a cloth or towel.
  • Store your heater in a cool, dry dust-free location.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If your heater fails to operate or if there is no heat:

  • Auto Safety Shut-Off may have shut the unit off. Remove any obstructions and follow “To Reset the Heater” instructions section of the manual.
  • Do NOT attempt to repair or adjust any electrical or mechanical functions on this unit. Doing so will void the warranty. The inside of the unit contains no user serviceable parts. All servicing should be performed by qualified personnel only.
  • Make sure the power button is ON – depress button or turn knob to High.
  • Check the thermostat setting; it might be set too low. Turn the thermostat knob clockwise until the heater restarts or push thermostat button to 85º.
  • If the unit is still not producing enough heat, make sure Thermostat is set to the highest setting.
  • Be patient. Give the heater time to heat up.
  • Make sure the electrical outlet and circuit breaker are working.
  • You may hear a popping or crackling sound as the heater heats up. This is normal and safe operation. Once the heater heats up, the crackling sound will go away.
  • Make sure your heater is in a full upright position.
