IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

DANGER

When using an electrical appliance basic precautions should always be followed, including the following: Read all instructions before using this clipper. To reduce the risk of electric shock:

  • Do not reach for an appliance that has fallen into water. Unplug immediately.
  • Do not use while bathing or showering.
  • Do not place or store applicance where it can fall or be pulled into a tub or sink.
  • Do not place or drop into water, or other liquids except cleaning and oiling products.
  • Always unplug this appliance from electrical outlet immediately after using.
  • Unplug this appliance before cleaning, putting on or taking off internal parts.

WARNING

To reduce the risk of burns, fire, electric shock, or injury to persons and pets:

  • An appliance should never be left unattended when it is plugged in.
  • Close supervision is necessary when this appliance is used by, on, or near children or invalids.
  • Use this appliance only for its intended use as described in this manual. Do not use attachments not recommended by manufacturer.
  • To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug fits in a polarized outlet only one way. In the event the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. In the event it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any way.
  • Never operate this appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, if it has been dropped or damaged, or dropped into water.
  • Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
  • Never drop or insert any object into any opening.
  • Do not use outdoors or operate when aerosol spray products are being used or where oxygen is being administered.
  • Do not use this appliance with a damaged or broken comb or blade, as cuts or scratches may occur.
  • To disconnect, move all controls to “OFF’, then remove plug from outlet.
  • Do not wrap cord around unit when storing. Continuous stress on the cord can damage cord insulation and result in a shock hazard.
  • Avoid contact with moving blades.
  • Avoid tangling or kinking the cord while clipping or trimming. Should the cord become tangled or kinked, stop clipping or trimming and straighten the cord.
  • During use, do not place or leave clipper where it may be subject to damage by the animal or exposed to weather.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS DO NOT USE THIS CLIPPER UNTIL YOU HAVE READ THESE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

OPERATE ON VOLTAGE SPECIFIED ON CLIPPER:

Not all clippers have an adjustable blade. If you have a deluxe adjustable clipper, the following instructions apply to your clipper. The adjustable clippers have a blade that enables you to cut hair at various lengths. Some models of clippers have an adjustable blade. To adjust: Move thumb blade adjustment lever  down for coarse (B) cutting and up for fine (A) cutting.

OPERATING THE CLIPPER:

  • Remove the blade guard from the unit which is covering the teeth of the blades.
  • Disperse a few drops of lubricating oil across the blades. Wipe off excess with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Attach the guide comb associated with the desired coat length. Use of a guide comb aids in the prevention of accidental nicking of the skin. Always hold the clipper with the blade running parallel to the skin. Never cut into loose skin.
  • Clean clippings from the blades using the cleaning brush or an old toothbrush. Wipe the housing with a clean, dry cloth.
  • Before replacing the blade guard for storage, spread one or two drops of lubricating oil, over the blades to prevent rusting.

BLADE SHARPENING:

As with any cutting instrument, the cutting edges of the blade will become dull with usage. Increasing blade tension to force dull blades to cut can cause the clipper to heat and reduce motor life, and further shorten blade life. When the cutting blades no longer cut smooth and clean, sharpening is necessary.

LUBRICATING THE BLADES

A light film of oil should be maintained on the surface of the cutting blades. Oiling the blades frequently while in use will help keep the blades cleaner. Clean blades cut better. To clean blades, dip the teeth into cleaner with the clipper running. DO NOT IMMERSE THE CLIPPER. Remove from the mixture and, while holding the clipper with the blade end down, wipe the blades dry with a clean, dry cloth. Re-oil blades

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE:

NOTE: Any other maintenance not explained in this manual should be performed by an Authorized Service Center. To store unit, coil and secure cord and place in original carton.

USING THE ATTACHMENTS:

Plastic combs for attachment to clippers and trimmer blades are included with some kits. The comb attachment is grooved to fit snugly over the blades. When attaching the comb to the clipper, slide the comb down firmly as far as it will go. Make sure the comb is seated securely against the lower blade. To disengage the comb, pull and slide the comb upward until it is off the clipper. Replacement combs are not covered under warranty.

ADJUSTABLE CLIPPERS:

  • After continued use, the top and bottom blades may wear out.
  • Replacement blades are available through your nearest Authorized Service Station.
  • To remove the blades, unplug the clipper from the electric outlet. Lay the unit upside down on a flat, dry surface. Remove the two screws located in the bottom of the blade.
  • To replace blades, put the new top blade into position on the clipper head. Make sure the adjustment lever is pushed downward. Line up the new bottom blade so that the screw holes in the bottom blade are directly over the two center screw holes in the mounting plate.
  • Replace the screws. Before tightening the screws adjust the position of the blades so that the top blade is 1/32” back from and is parallel to the front edge of the bottom blade. The blades should also be even on each side. Tighten screws firmly.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS:

If your cord has a grounding pin, the following instructions must be followed: This appliance should be grounded. In the event of an electrical short circuit, grounding reduces the risk of electric shock by providing an escape wire for the electrical current. This appliance is equipped with a cord having a grounding wire with an appropriate grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

DANGER-Improper use of the grounding plug can result in a risk of electric shock.

If repair or replacement of the cord or plug is necessary, do not connect the grounding wire to either flat blade terminal. The wire with insulation having an outer surface that is green with or without yellow stripes is the grounding wire. Check with a qualified electrician or serviceman if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if in doubt as to whether the appliance is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided; if it will not fit into the outlet, have the proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. This appliance is for use on a nominal 120 volt circuit, and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug in Figure 1. A temporary adapter may be used to connect this plug to a two hole receptacle as shown in Figure 2 if a properly grounded outlet is not available. The temporary adapter should be used only until a properly grounded outlet (Figure 1) can be installed by a qualified electrician. The green colored rigid ear, lug, or the like extending from the adapter must be connected to a permanent ground such as a properly grounded outlet-box cover. Whenever the adapter is used it must be held in place by a metal screw. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CUT OR REMOVE THE ROUND GROUNDING PIN FROM THIS PLUG. If it is necessary to use an extension cord, use only a 3-wire extension cord that has a 3-blade grounding plug, and a 3-slot receptacle that will accept the plug on the clipper. Replace or repair a damaged cord.
