OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY

HOW TO USE

  1. Be sure the garment steamer is unplugged.
  2. While holding the main body of the steamer, twist the steamer head counterclockwise and lift it to remove it.
  3. For best results, fill the reservoir with distilled water to the max fill line. DO NOT OVERFILL.
  4. Replace the steamer head on the steamer body, twisting clockwise into the locked position.
  5. If steam is spitting or dripping, this indicates that there may be too much water in the unit. For the best performance, we recommend filling the reservoir with less water.
  6. Place the appliance on a flat surface in an upright position. Plug into an electrical outlet. Press the ON button. The green POWER light will illuminate.
  7. In about a minute, the unit will begin to emit a continuous flow of steam from the steam vents. The garment steamer is now ready for use.
  8. Hold the steamer by its handle when using. Do not grasp the body of the unit while steaming garments or while the unit is hot.
  9. Hold the fabric taut, and direct the flow of steam toward the garment to remove wrinkles. Do not touch fabric with the steam head.
  10. The approximate runtime is 5 minutes per fill-up.
  11. For best results, maintain an upright position when in use. Recommended steaming time is 5 minutes per use.
DECALCIFICATION

If the appliance begins to produce steam more slowly than usual or stops producing steam and then starts again, you may need to decalcify your steamer. Decalcification refers to removing the calcium deposits that form over time on the metal parts of the steamer. For the best performance of your Conair ® Fabric Steamer, decalcify the unit from time to time. The frequency depends upon the hardness of your tap water and how often you use the Steame.

NOTE:
To reduce or eliminate the occurrence of mineral buildup, we recommend the use of distilled water in the unit. To decalcify, use a solution of ¹∕ white vinegar ³ and ²∕ water in the water reservoir. Plug the ³ unit into an electrical outlet. Turn to the ON position and run until half the amount has steamed out. Turn the unit to the OFF position, unplug it from the electrical outlet, and allow it to sit for 30 minutes. Remove excess water from the reservoir by unscrewing the top of the steamer and holding it over the sink, allowing the water to pour from the internal reservoir. Repeat the above procedure as many times as necessary until a normal steam rate returns, usually 2–3 times. With each repeated cycle, use a fresh solution of vinegar and water. Run one cycle of fresh, cold water through the unit at the completion of decalcification before using the unit again to steam garments.

HOW TO STEAM TO REMOVE WRINKLES

Grasp the garment steamer by the handle with the steam jets facing away from you. Begin at the bottom of the fabric to allow the steam to rise inside and outside, removing wrinkles. Slowly move the nozzle from the bottom to the top of the fabric. Some fabrics are best steamed on the underside of the material. This will allow the fibers of the fabric to relax, eliminating wrinkles. NOTE: Test fabric for colorfastness in an inconspicuous spot.

Drape linens, towels, handkerchiefs, and ties over a rod or place on a towel rack. Heavier fabrics may require repeated steaming. Repeat as necessary. With practice, you will gain speed and efficiency. You will soon learn which fabrics require multiple steam applications. Do not directly touch fabric with the steam head.

TO STEAM GARMENTS OR DRAPES

  1. Hang up garment/drapery.
  2.  Gently hold the fabric taut with one hand and hold the steamer with the other hand. Hold the steamer near the garment/drapery so that steam is directed toward it. Use only in the vertical position.
  3. Slowly run the steam head up and down and side to side. To remove stubborn wrinkles, move the garment steamer very slowly.

TO MAKE CREASES OR PLEATS

  1. Hang the garment.
  2. Fold fabric where crease or pleat is desired. Hold the fold in place while applying steam directly to the fold.

KILL BEDBUGS OR DUST MITES

Steam is a contact killer that can kill dust mites, bedbugs, and eggs. It must hit bugs directly. When steaming to kill bedbugs, areas to concentrate on are seams, edges, and folds in the fabric. Direct the steamer nozzle about half an inch from the fabric to be steamed. Hold the steamer head at a minor angle up off the surface. Do not hold flush against the surface. Move at about an inch per second and steam the entire area that is infested.

Check the surface behind the steamed section after steaming. The surface should be warm to the touch. If it’s cool, you’re moving too fast. Move the steamer head from top to bottom of the object you’re steaming. (Steam rises!) Be cautious of surfaces that you can’t steam, such as finishes on furniture, leather, and certain paints. Test on an inconspicuous area before steaming the entire object. NOTE: You may have to repeat the process for the best results.
