IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  • Read all instructions before using.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against fire, electrical shock and injury to persons do not immerse cord, plugs or appliance in water or other liquid. Do not rinse the appliance under the tap or clean it in the dishwasher. If the appliance falls into liquid, immediately unplug it.
  • Turn off the appliance and unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance or removing contents from the jug. Never put hands into the jug or handle blades with the appliance plugged in.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. For assistance in the U.S. or Canada only call 1-866-309-8817.
  • The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliancemanufacturer may result in fire, electric shock or injury to persons.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  • Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to “off”, then remove plug from wall outlet.
  • This appliance is intended for household use only. Do not use this appliance for anything other than its intended use as described in this manual.
  • Always operate appliance with the motor unit in place. Do not attempt to remove the motor unit or empty the jug until the blade has stopped rotating.
  • Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycles.
  • A short power-supply cord (or detachable power-supply cord) is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
  • Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.
  • If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used:
  • The marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance.
  • The extension cord should be a grounding type 3-wire cord; and
  • The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
  • Please use appropriate detachable power-supply. Cord type: SVT, #16AWG x 3C, VW-1, 1050C.
  • Any other servicing should be performed by an authorized service representative.
  • Avoid contact with moving parts.
  • Close supervision is required when this product is used by, on, or near children, or persons with limited physical, sensory, or mental capabilities or invalids.
  • Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children.
  • The blades are very sharp. Do not touch the blades, especially when the appliance is plugged in. Handle carefully when removing, inserting or cleaning.
  • Turn off the appliance, unplug and ensure all moving parts have stopped before disassembling the appliance to remove food.
  • If the blades get stuck, unplug the appliance before you remove the ingredients that block the blades. BLADES ARE SHARP.
  • When mixing liquids, especially hot liquids, do not exceed the “MAX” indication on jug to reduce risk of spillage, splattering or possible injury or burns from hot liquids.
  • Never leave the appliance unattended while in use.
  • Do not connect this appliance to an external timer or remote control system.
  • Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.
  • Do not exceed the suggested quantities and running time specified in the user manual or run the motor continuously.
  • Do not process more than one batch without interruption. Let the appliance cool down completely before continuing to process.
  • Use on a flat stable, heat-resistant surface away from water or any heat source.
  • This appliance operates at high temperatures which may cause burns. Do not touch hot surfaces or parts of the appliance while it is operating. Let the appliance cool down completely before you handle or clean it.
  • Hot steam is released during operation through the outlet openings. Keep your hands and face away from the steam and outlet openings.
  • Always hold the appliance by the handle on the jug. Do not hold the appliance by the handgrip on the motor unit, as it may tip over. (Fig. 2)

Before first use

Remove all packing material. Remove any stickers or labels from the appliance. Follow the steps below to thoroughly clean all parts that will come into food contact before you use the appliance for the first time.

  • Hold the handle of the jug with one hand and lift the motor unit off the jug by its handgrip with the other hand (Fig. 3).

  • Philips-HR2204-Viva-Collection-Soup-Maker-Fig8Hold the motor unit above the jug with both the motor unit and jug connectors aligned and then lower the motor unit into the jug (Fig. 5).
  • Philips-HR2204-Viva-Collection-Soup-Maker-Fig9Put the small plug in the socket of the jug (1) and put the power plug in the wall outlet (2) (Fig. 6).

  • Press the program selection button until the compote program is selected (Fig. 7) and then press the start/stop button (Fig. 8).

  • Hold the handle of the jug with one hand and with the other hand lift the motor unit off the jug by its handgrip (Fig. 3).
  • Pour the water out of the jug and rinse the inside of the jug under the tap (Fig. 10).

Using the appliance

The SoupMaker has a blade unit to blend ingredients, and a heating element to heat up the ingredients for soup. You can also use the appliance to make compotes or cold soups/smoothies. It has five preset programs and a manual setting. Delicious recipes and various tips are available in the separate recipe booklet. The general steps below apply to all six programs. Use this appliance for its intended household use as described in this manual.

Avoid contact with moving parts. Keep hands and fingers away from blades and out of container during operation or while appliance is plugged in to prevent the possibility of severe injury to persons and/or damage to the appliance.

Prepare the ingredients

Tip

  • For best taste, use fresh seasonal ingredients.
  • Cut the ingredients in cubes of 2 cm / 3/4 in to get best results.
  • Defrost ingredients before putting them in the jug.
  • This appliance is not suitable for making pastry doughs, batters or for baking.

 

  • Hold the handle of the jug with one hand and with the other hand lift the motor unit off the jug by its handgrip (Fig. 3).
  • Put the ingredients in the jug (Fig. 11).

  • If you are cooking meat and vegetables, make sure you put the vegetables in the jug first.
  • Make sure the ingredients are spread evenly over the bottom of the jug.

 

  • Add water or another liquid to the ingredients in the jug (Fig. 12).

Caution

  • Make sure the content (including liquid) is somewhere between the MIN and MAX indication inside the jug.
  • If the contents go over the MAX indication, the overflow sensor will cause the alarm signal to activate. Remove some of the contents and restart the program.

 

  • Stir the liquid and ingredients (Fig. 13).

  • Hold the motor unit above the jug with both connectors aligned and then lower the motor unit into the jug (Fig. 5).
  • Put the small plug in the socket of the jug (1) and put the power plug in the wall outlet (2) (Fig. 6).
  • Press the program selection button to select the desired program (Fig. 7).
  • Press the start/stop button to start the cooking process (Fig. 8).
  • The corresponding light goes on and the SoupMaker starts the cooking and/or blending process (Fig. 9).
  • When the program has finished, the appliance beeps, and the light blinks (Fig. 14).

  • Blades are sharp. Handle carefully. Always unplug the appliance first. Never touch the blade itself when cleaning or clearing food caught in blades.
  • Do not process ingredients such as ice cubes, frozen ingredients or fruits with stones.

  • To stop the ongoing cooking process, press and hold the start/stop button for 2 seconds.
  • If you prefer your soup even finer, or would like to do some blending in your chunky soup or compote, select the manual blending program. Press and hold the start/stop button to start blending. To stop blending, simply release the button.

Note

  • The maximum operating time for one manual blending cycle is 30 seconds.
  • To better protect the lifetime of the appliance, it is recommended to wait at least 30 minutes until the appliance cools down before next use.

 

  • Remove the power plug from the wall outlet and from the appliance (Fig. 15).
  • Hold the handle of the jug with one hand and with the other hand lift the motor unit off the jug by its handgrip (Fig. 3).
  • You can now pour the soup, smoothie or compote into a bowl (Fig. 16).

  • Clean the appliance after every use. Refer to the chapter ‘Cleaning’.

Cleaning

  • Never immerse the appliance in water. Do not clean the appliance in the dishwasher.
  • Keep both the motor unit connector and jug connector clean and dry.

  • Always unplug the appliance and wait until it cools down before you clean it.
  • Never use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive liquids such as alcohol, gasoline or acetone to clean the appliance.

 

  • Remove the power plug from the wall outlet and from the appliance (Fig. 15).

  • Clean the blade unit and overflow sensor by rinsing them under the tap (Fig. 17).

Tip

  • If necessary, clean the blade unit and overflow sensor with a soft brush.

 

  • Clean the inside of the jug under the tap. If necessary add some dishwashing liquid and use a soft brush (Fig. 18).

  • Clean the top part of the motor unit and the outside of the jug with a moist cloth (Fig. 19).

Philips-tipTip

  • If the appliance and the blade unit are very dirty, pour boiling hot water into the jug and place the motor unit on the jug. Let the jug and the motor unit soak for 10 minutes.

Storage

  • Dry the jug and motor unit before storage.
  • Store the appliance in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or other heat source.
