Read all instructions before using the iron. When using your iron, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  1. Use iron only for its intended use.
  2. To protect against the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the iron in water or other liquids.
  3. Always turn the iron OFF before plugging or unplugging the iron from the electrical outlet. Never pull on the cord to disconnect the iron from the electrical outlet; instead, grasp the plug and pull on the plug to disconnect the iron.
  4. Do not allow the cord to touch hot surfaces. Let the iron cool completely before putting away. Loop cord loosely around iron when storing.
  5. Always disconnect the iron from the electrical outlet when filling with water or emptying and when not in use.
    Continued
  6. Do not operate the iron with a damaged cord or if the iron has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the iron. Contact our Consumer Service Department for examination, repair, or adjustment. Incorrect reassembly can cause a risk of electric shock when the iron is used.
  7. Close supervision is necessary for any appliance being used by or near children. Do not leave the iron unattended while connected or on an ironing board.
  8. Burns can occur from touching hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Use caution when you turn a steam iron upside down – there may be hot water in the reservoir.
  9. This appliance is only for domestic and personal use.

Filling the water tank

IMPORTANT
Never use water that contains additives (starch, perfume, aromatic substances, softener, etc) in the steamer. Additives such as these can affect the properties of the steam and lead to the formation of deposits. Never use water complitely distilled or demineralized.

  • Ensure that the steamer is unplugged (fig.11). Remove the water tank from the base of the appliance by pulling the handle upwards. Unscrew the tank cap and fill the tank. The tank holds 2.35 liters (80 ounces).
  • The steamer must be used with TAP WATER. If the water in your area is hard, Rowenta recommends that you mix half tap water and half distilled water, which reduces the hardness. You can also use bottled spring water.
  • After closing the cap, turn the tank down and hold it by the handle. Check out that no water is leaking through the cap.
  • Place the water tank on the base (fig.14). If you have any difficulty to placing it, check that the water tank is not the wrong way round.

USE

Warning
Never steam a garment while it is being worn. The hose and steam head may become hot during use. This is perfectly normal. Be careful and avoid any prolonged contact.

  • Only operate the steamer on the floor clear of any materials which may obstruct the base of the steamer (flat and horizontal surface). Do not obstruct the openings on the lower part of the appliance.
  • If necessary, expand the pole to the desired height by unlocking it, pulling it gently and locking it again. (fig.15)
  • Plug in the power cord, a beep sound is emitted and the power light on the front of the appliance turns on. (fig.16)
  • Hold down the Set/On-Off button located on the steam head for 2 to 3 seconds to switch on the steamer. The steamer starts on the minimum steam output setting. The steam amount can be set to the desired level by successively pressing the Set/On-Off button (5 different settings to perfectly adapt the steam output to all fabric types, from delicate to thick ones). (fig.17)
  • The steamer produces steam in 60 seconds, when in max position of variable steam.
  • Put the garment directly on the rotating hanger or on another hanger that you can hang up to the hook. To steam pants, we advise you to use the two hangers as described in the picture. (fig.19)
  • Grasp the steam head with the steam vents pointing away from you. Start steaming by brushing material lightly with the grain of the fabric in an up/down vertical motion. The fabric brush opens the weave of the fabrics for better steam penetration.
  • Start at the top the garment and gradually move downward. Always steam in a vertical position. (fig.18)

Turn off the appliance and fill the water tank. The appliance will automatically shut off after 1 minute if the water tank remains empty.

Caution
the empty tank detector does not work with fully distilled or demineralized water. We recommend you to use TAP WATER. If the water in your area is hard, mix half tap water and half distilled water.

Auto-Off function

  • This garment steamer is equipped with the Auto-Off function to ensure optimum safety. Thus, if the steam head stays motionless for 5 minutes, a beep sound will be emitted for 2 minutes before the automatic shut-off.
  • The garment steamer automatically turns to « Energy saving » mode before the automatic shut-off. During this time, the steam output is significantly reduced in order to limit the energy consumption before the appliance completely shuts off.

CLEANING

  1. Clean the main unit with a damp cloth. To maintain maximum performance, your steamer must be descaled occasionally. The time between descaling operations depends on the quality of the water and the frequency with which you use the appliance. The appliance must be descaled at least once a year or after 50 hours of use.
  2. To carry out a descaling operation, follow the following steps:
    • Ensure that the appliance has cooled down completely.
    • Fill the water tank with fresh water and place it on the main unit allowing water to fill the boiler.
    • Remove the tank from main unit and empty the water from the boiler through the same way the water goes inside.
    • Repeat step 2 and 3 several times until the scale has been removed.
TIPS
  • We recommend checking the garment care label for manufacturer recommendations before steaming. We also recommend testing the garment on an unobtrusive area such as an inner seam.
  • Read the recommendations for the maintenance of the fabrics on the labels of the clothing to be steamed.
  • Test the strength of the color of the fabric on an area of the garment that is not visible (inside of a hem).
  • Avoid contact between the steam head and silk or velvet.
  • Certain garments are smoothed more easily on the reverse side.
  • If you are using the steam head at a position close to the ground, raise the hose frequently in order to avoid the formation of condensation. You may hear a gurgling noise if the hose is obstructed in any way.
  • Heavy fabrics may need to be steamed longer.
  • Be careful at all times.
