CONTROL FUNCTIONS
- Main switch
Main switch:
The positions of the main switch are as follows
ON:
All electrical systems are supplied with power.
OFF:
All electrical systems are off. The key can be removed.
Indicator Lights
- Reverse indicator light “REVERSE”
- Neutral indicator light “NEUTRAL”
- Oil temperature warning light
- On-Command differential gear lock indicator light
- On-Command four-wheel-drive indicator light
Reverse indicator light “REVERSE”
This indicator light comes on when the transmission is in the reverse position
Neutral indicator light “NEUTRAL”
This indicator light comes on when the transmission is in the neutral position.
Oil temperature warning light
This warning light comes on when the engine overheats. When this occurs, stop the engine as soon as it is safe to do so, and allow it to cool. The electrical circuit of the warning light can be checked by turning the key to “ON”, with the engine stop switch set to then pushing the start switch. If the warning light stays on, allow the engine to cool. If the warning light stays on when the engine is cool, have a Yamaha dealer check the electrical circuit.
Speedometer
The speedometer shows the riding speed. This speedometer is equipped with an odometer and a trip-meter. The trip-meter can be reset to “0” with the reset knob. This information will enable you to plan fuel stops in the future.
CLEANING AND STORAGE
Cleaning
- Before cleaning the ATV:
a. Block off the end of the exhaust pipe to prevent water entry. A plastic bag and strong rubber band may be used.
b. Make sure the spark plug and all filler caps are properly installed. - Do not apply degreaser to the wheel axles.
- Rinse the dirt and degreaser off with a garden hose. Use only enough pressure to do the job.
CAUTION:
- Rinse the ATV off immediately with clean water and dry all surfaces with a chamois, clean towel or soft absorbing cloth.
- Clean the seat with a vinyl upholstery cleaner to keep the cover pliable and glossy.
Storage
Long-term
- Follow all the instructions in the “Cleaning” section of this chapter.
- Turn the fuel cock lever to “OFF”.
- Drain the carburetor float chamber by loosening the drain bolt; this will prevent fuel deposits from building up. Pour the drained fuel into the fuel tank.

Although Yamaha ATVs receive a thorough inspection before shipment from the factory, trouble may occur during operation. Any problem in the fuel, compression, or ignition systems, for example, can cause poor starting and loss of power. The following troubleshooting chart represents a quick and easy procedure for checking these vital systems yourself. However, should your ATV require any repair, take it to a Yamaha dealer, whose skilled technicians have the necessary tools, experience, and know-how to service the ATV properly. Use only genuine Yamaha replacement parts.
