How to Use the Timing Indicator E25?

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Remove Spark Plugs: Take out all top spark plugs and install the piston stop in the No. 1 cylinder’s spark plug hole.
  2. Attach the Timing Disc: Secure the timing disc to the aircraft propeller spinner using the supplied rubber bands.
  3. Confirm Top Center:
    • Observe the reading on the disc and adjust it to the exact midpoint of the degrees toward the T.C. mark.
    • Remove the piston stop and confirm the compression stroke by feeling the air release from the spark plug hole.
  4. Set Magneto Timing:
    • Move the propeller slightly past the required magneto timing setting.
    • Ensure breaker points start opening at this position (checked using an Eastern Model E-50 Synchronizer).
  5. You have now found top center on the compression stroke.
  6. The breaker points should just be starting to open at this setting.

Setting the Magneto Timing

To check or set the magneto timing, follow these steps:

  1. Rotate the propeller in the opposite direction past the specified magneto timing setting.
  2. At this position, the breaker points should just begin to open.
  3. Use an Eastern Model E-50 Synchronizer to verify the correct opening of the breaker points.

Note: A light tap on the dial ensures accurate timing.

Troubleshooting Guide

Issue: Incorrect Timing Readings

  • Solution: Recheck the piston stop positioning and confirm the pointer is accurately aligned with the T.C. mark.

Issue: Pointer Stiffness or Lack of Movement

  • Solution: Apply a small amount of oil to the pointer bushing for smooth operation.

Issue: Propeller Rotation Not Smooth

  • Solution: Verify that the piston stop is not obstructing movement.
